Robin's Breast Cancer Blog

This collection of messages was written as we've been dealing with Robin's breast cancer for several reasons: (1) To keep our friends ("extended family") up-to-date. (2) To educate folks about "the cancer trip". (3) To help us absorb what was happening, and purge any negativity that might affect Robin. Robin must maintain a positive, hopeful attitude, but with realistic understanding. We follow the mantra, "One day at a time", and trust that God will make good come from difficulty.

Robin Update --- Birthday September 30th! --- 09-22-2011

Just a quick update before I get down to Birthday Business…

You may recall that Robin was discharged from Hospice so that she could get treated at home for her last antibiotic-resistant UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). Robin's mother arrived and helped quite a bit while hospice was "on vacation." Robin completed her treatment and was readmitted to Hospice. Basically, that means she had nurses here checking her vital signs and interviewing her, and about 30 pages of paper forms to fill out and sign. Since Robin is blind, she cannot fill out the forms, so I get that joy all to myself. Fortunately (so far), Robin has not had a recurrence of the UTI.

In general, Robin is doing pretty well, considering. She continues to get new pains in new places, but she has been managing it. The hospice doctor is changing Robin's medications (I assume it is a price issue), but there have been no significant problems so far. Her vision is still terrible, but she maintains a good mental and spiritual attitude. I am not sure how!

Now, on to the Birthday…

Robin's birthday (I am not allowed to say which one) is September 30th. I've been wracking my brain and bugging my friends for a theme for this year, and I finally settled on ANGELS. Robin has collected them for many years in statues, pins, pictures, and calendars. SO, I am asking everyone to send Robin a birthday card with an angel (or angels) on it. Bonus points if the card is FUNNY! Her birthday is only a week away, so please don't fool around. It is a big boost to Robin to know YOU are thinking about HER. (Send me email if you need the address check at lwburns(at)yahoo(dot)com).

Finally, let me ask you to please keep praying for Robin (and don't forget to ask John Paul II to join with us in prayer). One of our St. Luke's families just lost a Mother/Grandmother to this brutal disease this week, and we can feel the pain to our family in Christ. Please join us in prayer for them and everyone affected by Cancer, especially the patients and the families. We greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers, cards and letters, and your phone calls and visits.

Thank You!

Love,
